Event Description

MCN's 3rd Annual Iftar Dinner will be Tuesday, August 14th from 6pm to 9pm. (5:30 Registration). The title of this year's iftar is "Communities of Faith Unite! Ensuring Justice for All."

Annually, the dinner draws about a 100 interfaith leaders, friends and supporters of MCN.

Mr. Vincent Warren, from the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), will be joining us as Keynote Speaker!
Warren is the Executive Director of CCR, a national legal and educational organization dedicated to advancing and defending the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Vince oversees CCR's groundbreaking litigation and advocacy work which includes combating the illegal expansion of presidential power and policies such as illegal detention at Guantanamo, rendition, torture and warrantless wiretapping; holding corporations and government officials accountable for human rights abuses; and, challenging racial injustice and mass incarceration.

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) has long been active in the movement to address racial profiling, particularly in New York City. CCR engages in advocacy and organizing efforts to address discrimination, brutality, misconduct and abuse by the police through the Communities United for Police Reform campaign and its work across the country.Additionally, CCR filed Floyd, et al. v. City of New York, et al., a federal class action lawsuit against the NYPD and the City of New York that challenges the NYPD's practices of racial profiling and unconstitutional stops and frisks.

Proceeds from tickets will go to our monthly soup kitchen and our cross-cultural engagement activities. We have also invited Islamic Relief, a humanitarian aid NGO and encourage our guests to give in the name of the holy month of Ramadan to the work they do. This year we w
ill focus our grassroots fundraising efforts on the 19 million people who are facing food insecurities in Africa's Sahel region because of continued drought.

Also, we will be collecting gifts for our Gift for Eids project at the iftar. Please bring along a new gift under $20 and we will distribute to a social service organization within NYC. Last year we provided over 250 gifts to social service organizations all over NYC. This year we have a goal of atleast doubling this number!  Please help us accomplish this goal by purchasing gifts or donating generously during the month of Ramadan.
